Renting a Carbon-Neutral Vehicle for Your Perfect Costa Rican Adventure
Adventure Inn constantly searches the car rental market in Costa Rica. With our spread sheets, we determine the best vehicles, insurance terms and prices, service, even carbon neutrality. You may find cheaper prices for two reasons. First, the cars will be older, more used, scratched and damaged, and they pollute more. Or they do not include costly mandatory insurance and taxes. Be careful, especially with the big multinational car companies. If you cannot talk to a real person, and you are not quoted a guaranteed final price, don't give them your credit card. Some of our guests have been unpleasantly surprised to discover, after it is too late, that they will need to pay nearly twice what they expected. Adventure Inn stands behind these prices.

Driving any of our listed cars is carbon neutral. The gas emission generated is compensated by reforestation projects on the Osa Peninsula meeting the requirements of the Carbon Neutral Protocol.
These prices are based on a 24 hour day, and include all taxes, mandatory CDW insurance, unlimited mileage, 24 hour line service, 24 hour road-side assistance, and pick-up and drop off at the Adventure Inn or airport (same price). All vehicles have air conditioning, FM/CD, power steering and all 4WDs come with roof racks. 4WD vehicles are recommended from May 15th to December 1st because of heavy afternoon rains. 4WDs or the Nissan Urvan are also recommended if you are going to Monteverde because of greater road clearance.
Most people do not take the costly full insurance coverage, and elect to pay the deductible if necessary. It is long and difficult to sue in Costa Rica and rewards are generally low. Like all car rental agencies in Costa Rica, they will take a deposit from your credit card equal to the full deductible, then reverse the charges when you hand the vehicle in undamaged. If you have an American or Canadian VISA, MasterCard or American Express Gold or Platinum card, you can have a second driver for free, plus in most cases, you get the benefits of full coverage insurance, meaning your credit card company will refund you any deductible you must pay in the event of an accident. Check with your credit card company before leaving home to see if you are covered for this full insurance option and please discuss insurance with the bilingual agent when you sign the rental agreement so you are clear on it.
Insurance in Costa Rica is a state run monopoly, and there is little reason to shop around. Though insurance offered by all car rental agencies differs slightly, what one agency gives in one area, it takes away in another, so it basically balances out.
A GPS installed is $ 9 / day, baby seats are $3 / day. Cell phones are $5 per day but if you rent a vehicle for 5 or more days a cell phone is included, ($1.60 / min.) Vehicles can be dropped off and picked up at Adventure inn between 7 am and 8:30 pm Monday to Friday, and between 7 am and 6:30 pm Saturday and Sunday. They can be dropped off or picked up at the airport at any time.
