Adventure Inn is the only hotel or tour company to offer this wonderful guided close-up Costa Rican tour. You won't see a lot of tourists. It is designed for those who would enjoy an impromptu look at the real Costa Rica. We start with a visit to Costa Rica's most divine religious spot, Our Lady of the Angels Basilica in Cartago. On this location in 1639 the story has it that a young peasant girl discovered a miraculous statue of the Virgin Mother holding the Baby Jesus. Each early August hundreds of thousands of Ticos make a pilgrimage from home to this church. Later we pass right under huge towering turbines on a wind farm, helping generate some of the electricity for Costa Rica's power grid as it approaches near 100% renewable energy sources. Drive around the gorgeous mountains visiting small unspoiled country villages, rural homesteads and farms with their all-too-easy-to-grow flower and vegetable gardens. Stop at a coffee plantation for a hands-on experience, and learn about Costa Rica's most important crop in the early days, and how it financed much of Costa Rica's infrastructure. Your bilingual guide keeps you informed as you travel along, happy to answer any questions, and allowing you to stop along the way at any of the thousand photo opportunities that will present themselves, or enjoy a cold refreshment and bocas in a Costa Rican mountain pub. Towards the end of the tour, you will cross a mountain pass and be treated to an excellent typico Costa Rican dinner from an amazing lookout restaurant. Stretched out far below, as you eat, is the bustling City of San Jose. Watch as it transcends from the bright afternoon, through soft pastel sunset colors to the vibrant nighttime with a million twinkling lights, you'll never forget the sensation. Experience Costa Rica like a Tico, not a tourist. Bring your sun glasses and camera. Beer and other refreshments will be made available upon request.
