Birdwatching in Barva Volcano National Park

Barva Volcano National Park is a lesser known destination in the highlands of Costa Rica.

Barva Volcano was difficult to access for years and has kept its magical green carpet away from main-stream tourism. The Central Volcanic Cordillera of Costa Rica is full of endemic and iconic birds such as Resplendent Quetzal, Three wattle Bellbird among others. Dense vegetation, semi open pasture fields with large trees covered with epiphytes such as bromeliads, orchids, mistletoe etc. Misty mornings, dripping moss, thick heavy vegetation, make this destination a dream….

Species Highlights: Zeledonia, Timberline Wren, Sooty Robin, Fiery throated Hummingbird, Flame colored Tanager, Gray breasted Woodwren, Black capped Flycatcher, Black billed nightingale Thrush, Slaty Flowerpiercer, Resplendent Quetzal, Slivery, Costa Rican Pygmy Owl, Dusky Nightjar, Ruddy Treerunner, Spotted Woodquail, Long tailed Silky Flycatchers.
