Barva Volcano Cloud-Forest Birdwatching Tour
Request a guided highland birding day at Barva Volcano, with lunch and Adventure Inn transfers, subject to 2026 access restrictions.
Highland birding above the Central Valley
The Barva Volcano sector of Braulio Carrillo National Park protects cool,
wet cloud forest at high elevation. With a specialist guide, search forest
edges and trails for highland species such as hummingbirds, woodcreepers,
nightingale-thrushes, silky-flycatchers and, with luck, resplendent quetzals.
Expect a real mountain outing
Mist, rain, mud, roots and elevation make this more demanding than the other
birding tours. The normal trail network includes routes toward Barva Lake
and Copey Lake, but the guide must choose a route suited to access, weather,
fitness and recent bird activity.
Important 2026 access restriction
Road work has temporarily limited public access. April 2026 reporting says
the sector is open only Saturdays and Sundays during the works and vehicles
cannot use the affected approach. Booking remains unavailable until the
current SINAC schedule, reservation, transport plan and added walking
distance have been verified.
The existing package lists a 6:00 a.m. pickup, 5:00 p.m. return, guide,
admission, transportation and lunch. Breakfast is not included; request a
hotel breakfast to go separately.

Questions
Not currently as a safe assumption. Temporary 2026 works were reported to limit access to weekends; verify your exact date.
Vehicle access was barred during the reported works, so the current transfer and added walk must be confirmed.
No. Elevation, cold rain, mud, roots and potentially extra approach walking make it strenuous.
Quetzals occur in highland habitat, but no sighting can be guaranteed.
