Choose the SJO / Cariari area (Adventure Inn) when…
- You arrive late or leave early and want a short airport ride plus free shuttle coordination.
- You are continuing elsewhere in Costa Rica (La Fortuna, beaches, tours) and need a first or last night base.
- You are visiting the Costa Rica Convention Center or Belén / Route 1 corridor.
- You want breakfast, a pool, spacious family rooms, and local trip help—not a downtown nightlife stay.
Choose downtown San José when…
- Your priority is museums, theaters, restaurants, and walking central neighborhoods for several days.
- Nightlife and urban exploration matter more than airport logistics.
- You do not need an airport shuttle and are fine with a longer transfer to/from SJO.
The honest take
If you are spending several days exploring museums, restaurants, and nightlife in central San José on foot, a downtown hotel may make more sense. Adventure Inn is built for airport convenience, Convention Center access, and travelers beginning or ending a Costa Rica journey.
