Where to Stay After Landing at SJO Airport
Most travelers sleep better near the airport on night one—then start the drive, tour, or transfer the next morning.

Why an airport-area hotel works for night one
Juan Santamaría (SJO) sits west of downtown San José. After a long flight, immigration and bags, many guests prefer a short ride, a meal if the kitchen is still open, and sleep—rather than driving unfamiliar roads at night.
- Usually 10–15 minutes from SJO by car, depending on traffic—not a long transfer into the city center.
- Free round-trip airport shuttle for Adventure Inn guests (arrange with flight details).
- 24-hour reception and check-in; luggage storage if your room is not ready.
- Breakfast included on most rates; pool and restaurant on site for a first/last night.
Landing late?
Late arrivals are common at SJO. Set expectations before you book:
- After about 8 p.m.: plan on immigration + bags + transfer. You may still catch dinner if you arrive before kitchen last order.
- Kitchen last order: 9:30 p.m. Restaurant closes at 10:00 p.m. Landing near or after that window? Use late-night preorder—food is prepared ahead and held. Front desk or night security hands it to you on arrival for your room. Flight delays do not cancel the order.
- After midnight: reception is open 24 hours. Pool and restaurant will be closed. Preorder (held until you arrive) or plan snacks, then breakfast in the morning.
- Airport pickups for guests run 24 hours when coordinated. Hotel-to-airport departures are typically hourly 3 a.m.–noon—confirm times when you reserve.
Next morning
From Adventure Inn you can collect a rental car, take a private transfer, or join a day tour. Many guests continue to La Fortuna, the beaches, or elsewhere after breakfast—not the same night they land.
