Irazú Volcano & Cartago Half-Day Tour
Visit Irazú Volcano's high-altitude crater sector and historic Cartago, with park admission, guide and Adventure Inn transfers.
Costa Rica's highest volcanic summit by road
Cartago's farming highlands rise toward Irazú Volcano National Park. At
roughly 3,432 m above sea level, the crater
sector has a stark volcanic landscape, cool mountain air and broad views
when clouds lift.
At the crater sector
Walk the designated visitor area with your guide and look across the main
crater and surrounding volcanic terrain. Crater water can change or
disappear, and cloud can arrive quickly, so turquoise water and distant
ocean views are never guaranteed.
The structured walking is relatively short, but the elevation can make even
easy movement feel harder. Temperatures may be cold and windy while UV
exposure remains strong. Guests with heart, lung, mobility or altitude
concerns should review suitability before booking.
Cartago
The route descends through Cartago for views or visits related
to the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles and the old parish ruins.
Exact access depends on services, events and the confirmed route.
Park access
Irazú crater-sector entry uses a timed SINAC reservation. The tour includes
admission; the timed reservation must be secured before departure. Park
access, visibility and itinerary order may change because of
weather, volcanic conditions or official restrictions.
